As consumers grow more comfortable with the technology and EV infrastructure improves, sales of BEVs continue to grow month over month.
At the end of September, franchised dealers hit a major sales milestone related to BEVs: from 2012 to the end of the third quarter 2021, franchised dealerships have sold over half a million new BEVs, specifically 501,507 vehicles. This is just the start and with new products hitting showrooms across the country, BEV sales momentum will only increase.
BEV sales at franchised dealerships totaled 300,635 through the first nine months of the year, an increase of 91.3% compared to the same time in 2020.
While BEVs still represent a relatively small number of the vehicles sold compared to other powertrain vehicles, about 2.6% of all new vehicles sold year to date in 2021, this number is up from 1.5% compared to the first three quarters of 2020.
American’s franchised local dealerships are excited to get their customers behind the wheel of these exciting, new vehicles and are proud to be help move the U.S. toward mass market adoption of alternative-powered vehicles.
From installing charging stations to training their teams to serve as EV product experts, dealers are prepared and eager to sell the nearly 100 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) coming to market in the next few years.
